Bill Tucker serves as a senior advisor to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s College Ready program. He previously led the College Ready advocacy grantmaking team as Deputy Director for U.S. Policy & Advocacy. Bill joined the Foundation after serving seven years as Managing Director of Education Sector, a prominent education policy think tank working on K-12 and post-secondary issues. In addition to his education policy work, Bill also brings a strong record of leadership and management, spending his years prior to Education Sector as a social entrepreneur in both the nonprofit and for profit sectors. In 2000, he co-founded SmarterOrg, Inc, an e-learning company, sold it in 2002 to the Isoph Corporation, a provider of specialized e-learning software, services and content development, and through 2005 served as Isoph’s chief knowledge officer. Prior to graduate school, Tucker managed the training, conference and publishing operations at CompassPoint Nonprofit Services, the nation’s largest provider of management and technical training to nonprofit organizations. He currently serves on the board of directors of the Achievement Prep Public Charter School. Bill is a graduate of Duke University and has both an MBA and a Master’s of Education from Stanford University.
